EthnoMediaGroup is a compilation of broadcast, Internet and telecommunications professionals who have joined together to form an organization that is taking full advantage of the benefits created by New Media forces.
EthnoMediaGroup, Inc. provide a service via broadband to citizens within its targeted communities which insure that they share in the latest Internet explosion and are able to take full advantage of its new capability.
Our objectives are:
- Create an Internet Protocol Television Network that will be a major connect point for targeted communities where they can receive entertainment and "quality of life" from voices within the community.
- Aggregate content from key sectors of our society which speak to areas that are very important to daily life within targeted communities. The initial focus will be on content related to four broad categories: HEALTH, FAITH, SPORTS and LEADERSHIP.
- Provide access to a global marektplace for those voices in the community which offer information that can improve, expand or otherwise change the condition of their environment.
- Provide a distribution outlet for those independent producers of content who have heretofore been unable to secure an easy platform to display their art, expand the reach of their ministry, remain connected with its alumni or market their products to an ever increasing Internet based consumer group.
- Create an Internet connect point for advertisers seeking to reach this expanding consumer segment.
EthnoMediaGroup Leadership:
Lou Phillips - President & CEO
After 27 years of service at American Airlines, Inc., Lou took an early retirement from his position
as Managing Director of Urban and Community Relations (a department which he established in 1995) to
become founder and President of the Multicultural Tourism Development Alliance (www.mtda.org). MTDA is a
non-profit (501c6) travel industry organization dedicated to preserving, protecting and promoting the
rich history and culture of African, Asian, Latin and Native Americans.
This effort began with the establishment of Ethnotravel.com (www.ethnotravel.com) in early 2001. This experience led to Lou founding a Northern Virginia branch of Dr. Carter G. Woodson's association with the goal of launching strategies to celebrate Black History on a daily basis. In 2002, he launched "The Clio Exchange television show as a tool to affect that celebration and expand public awareness of Dr. Carter G. Woodson and produce other Black History related content.
Through EthnoIPtv, the communities of African, Asian, Latin and Native Americans have the capability to utilize the value of broadband to communicate internally and externally. The community is now able to share critical information along with specialized training, entertainment, social and faith based initiatives.
Earl Cobb - Sr. Vice President & COO
Earl has over 30 years of senior executive and business management experience in both FORTUNE 500 and
mid-size companies. He has successfully led small business start-ups as well as venture capital backed
companies. He has held numerous corporate leadership positions including, Vice President of Radio Systems
Operation for Motorola, Inc.; Vice President of Operations for the Reynolds & Reynolds Company's Healthcare
Systems Division and President and Chief Executive Officer of MedContrax, Inc., a venture capital backed,
multi-million dollar Internet software and Infrastructure company.
Calvin Brown - Vice President & CFO
Calvin Brown has over 28 years of accounting experience as a Certified Public Accountant in individual
and corporate taxation, of which 8 1/2 years were spent with the Internal Revenue Service as an IRS Agent.
Calvin has extensive experience working with small to medium sized firms, providing organizations with
business counseling, as well as other professional support. Calvin has been a key player in the development
and launch of a number of start-up businesses to include those that required public funding.
Dean Johnston - Vice President Production
Dean Johnston has produced a number of corporate promotions, training and communications packages for
organizations representing various industries He has served as President and founder of JDJ Media Group of
Ontario Canada and he has acquired extensive experience in all phases of television and multimedia production,
including his invovlement with the establishment of the Automotive Satellite Training Network and the Satellite
Interactive Training Network for the power generation utility industry. Dean has earned a B.S. Degree in
Business Administration and also studied Television and Film Production. He brings a wealth of Internet
development and video production experience to the team.
Howard Hewett - Vice President Entertainment
Howard Hewett is one of the most talented soul singers of the past two decades. He made his mark as a member
of the R&B group Shalamar as the lead singer for such hits as "The Second Time Around," "Full of Fire," "Dead
Giveaway" and "A Night to Remember". His solo career has produced a number of hits which he either wrote or
collaborated with other well known artists. Howard has a wealth of experience and contacts within the secular
and gospel music industry and will be a valuable asset to EthnoIPtv as we transform the delivery of new talent to
the world.
DeWayne Reed - Vice President-Sales & Planning
DeWayne has over 16 years of experience in sales, marketing and management in the pharmaceutical and medical
device industries. Additionally, he has served as the Assistant Director of UNCF's Lou Rawl's Parade of Stars
Telethon and as Publicity Co-Chair for the Woodholme Foundation, a non-profit organization with the goal of
assisting at-risk high school students with financial and mentoring support for college. DeWayne is also the
President and CEO of Trust Management, an entertainment management company with the mission of developing and
promoting talent committed to sharing messages of inspiration.
John Tomlinson - Director/Sports Programming
John has over 14 years of IT experience and he has embraced working with high school athletes. He has been
coaching high school football for 13 years and has experienced the ups and downs of high school recruiting while
watching many young men come up short because they weren't prepared. John has created a way for many young men
and women to avoid falling through those cracks by combining his IT experience and his understanding of high
school recruiting and academic preparation. His committment continues with Ethnos IPTV. John is a graduate of
Winston-Salem State University in Computer Science with a minor in Mathematics. He brings a varied amount of
professional experience that will help maximize the efforts of EthnoIPtv's Sports channel.
Joel Silver - Vice President Legal Affairs
Joel is a long-time supporter of the Multicultural Tourism Development Alliance and brings a wealth of legal
experience and an intimate understanding of launching new enterprises, locating and vetting venture capital
funding and a realization of the value and importance of media. His specialties are business counseling and
planning, real estate, corporate and other commercial transactions, environmental compliance and intellectual
property matters. Joel is a graduate of George Washington Law and currently head up his own firm Silver, McGowan
& Silver. Prior to launching his firm Joel served as a partner with the Washington law firm of Venable, Baetjer,
Howard & Civiletti and is a member of the D.C. and the American Bar Association.
George Oluwaboro - Vice President International
George, a Nigerian native, is a Certified Public Accountant who has worked in both the private and public
sector with a variety of responsibilities that has given him a valuable reservoir of financial and communications
training. He began his career as a bank examiner for the State of Texas and served as a Senior Accountant in
corporate America with MCI/WorldCom. He served as an Audit Manager for the Atlanta firm Pope & Company; and,
worked as a Fund Manager for African Mutual Fund Corporation and finally as Executive Vice President and CFO for
LFR Communications, Inc. where he acquired a wealth of experience in communications with a particular emphasis
on video entertainment via cable and satellite systems.
Theresa Whitfield - Vice President Mktg & PR
Theresa is a seasoned media relations and marketing expert who has held increasingly responsible
management positions throughout her career. As Media Relations Director for the Salvation Army, Theresa was
responsible for all strategies and procedures for this venerable non-profit enterprise. She also served as Public
Relations Manager IBE Network as well as Director of Marketing & Public Relations for St. Augustine College. A
true professional that brings an extensive understanding of how to strategically place EthnoIPtv for maximum effect.
